The Multiflight Flight Training Centre has been selected to provide flight training for cadet pilots for the UK’s largest independent cargo carrier, Atlantic Airlines.
Multiflight is delighted to have been selected from a host of other UK flight training centres to run Atlantic Airlines’ Cadet Pilot Programme/Sponsorship Scheme.
“We are very pleased to have been chosen by Atlantic Airlines to run the selection and training of their cadets,” said Mike McKenzie, Multiflight Flight Training Centre Manager.
“It’s testament to the quality of the flight training provided at Multiflight and the caliber of the flight training team here that we have been selected above other UK flight training centres.”
Russell Ladkin, Managing Director of Atlantic Airlines, commented: “Multiflight is a first class flight training centre and the perfect partner to run our cadet pilot scheme. We know the scheme is in safe and trusted hands and that our cadet pilots will receive flight training of the very highest standard.”
The Atlantic Airlines Cadet Pilot Programme/Sponsorship Scheme is designed to take aspiring trainee pilots who currently hold a valid Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) and whom can meet rigorous selection criteria, to the issue of a full Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) and Instrument Rating (IR).
“The Atlantic Airlines’ sponsorship scheme offers a unique possibility to determined young individuals, said Mike.
“It is funded entirely up front by Atlantic Airlines, with 50 per cent of the initial training costs later repaid by the pilot: but only after they have graduated from the programme and are working and being paid as a First Officer with the airline. All successful cadets are employed with Atlantic Airlines on completion of the programme, which includes both type and line training, as a Commercial Pilot on one of Atlantic Airlines’ aircraft types.”
Multiflight will welcome its first group of Atlantic Airlines’ cadet pilots in the autumn. Anyone interested in taking part in the scheme should contact the Flight Training School for more information and complete an application form.
Atlantic Airlines, which is based at Coventry Airport, is an all cargo airline offering ad hoc and contract cargo services throughout Europe. It works mainly for the Express Cargo Industry and its customers include TNT, DHL and Royal Mail. Specialist services include support aircraft for oil spill response and the carriage of bloodstock and other high value time critical products. Its current principle fleet features nine BAe Systems ATP aircraft, with two more scheduled for 2009 delivery, and seven Lockheed L188/C Electra.

The Leeds racing sensation Jon Lancaster took a well-deserved first ever Formula Three podium at Pau.
The 19-year-old Multiflight-sponsored driver, racing in the F3 Euroseries, took third place in the first race at Pau and, after struggling with a lack of grip in tricky conditions in the second race, held on to seventh place in the second race: once again finishing top rookie.
After gaining his podium place Jon said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. I’ve shown in practice, qualifying and now the race that I can mix it with the more experienced opposition.
“Now I’m really looking forward to the next round of the championship where hopefully we’ll be able to capitalise on what we’ve learnt here this weekend.”
Jon is certainly intent on making an impression in his first season in Formula 3 in his ART car. Last year he had a stunning run of wins in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series and took second place on the championship podium.
Going into the season he knew it was going to be difficult: competing against many second and third year Formula 3 drivers, but he was undeterred.
Recently selected as a British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Superstar, Jon is now looking to his next F3 Euroseries outing which will be at the Norisring circuit in Nuremberg, Germany: over the weekend of 28/29 June.
Good luck Jon!

Multiflight has expanded its helicopter charter fleet to meet the growing demand for its charter service.
Multiflight has added a Eurocopter AS355 F2, single pilot IFR, to its fleet and is awaiting the arrival of a second nine-seater Dauphin AS365 helicopter. The new charter aircraft join Multiflight’s existing fleet, which includes an AS365, AS350 and an R44.
“There has been a significant increase in demand for Multiflight’s charter service as more and more people choose the ease and flexibility of helicopter travel,” said Multiflight’s Helicopter Operations Manager Linda Nicholls.
“For anyone wanting to make the most of their time and avoid the stress of airport queues and the ever-increasing delays on the road and rail system, private aircraft charter is becoming the way to travel.”
Multiflight’s charter helicopters are perfect for corporate rental or for days out to destinations such as York Races, Royal Ascot, Cheltenham Races, Wimbledon or Twickenham, or to a wedding or other special event.
“We are the only operator in the North of England that will be able to offer two luxurious Dauphin AS365 helicopters,” said Linda.

Multiflight has announced the appointment of Miles Beecham to its Board of Directors as Finance Director.
Miles, 32, who started his career with Birmingham accountancy firm PKF working in audit and then as a corporate tax specialist, has been Multiflight’s Financial Controller and Company Secretary since 2002. He joins the Company’s two other Directors: Multiflight founder and Chairman David Hood – the technology entrepreneur who founded Shipley-based Pace Micro Technology, and Managing Director Steve Borrowdale, on the Multiflight Board.
Commenting on his promotion, Miles, of Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, said: “I joined Multiflight because I saw great potential with the Company and considered aviation an exciting industry to work in and both have proved to be true. We have achieved a significant amount and Multiflight is now one of the finest facilities of its kind in the UK.”
During Miles’ time at Multiflight he has been closely involved with the Company’s development and expansion. The site has undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment, including the fixed based operations (FBO), the Flight Training Centre and the Café Bar.
“There are plans to further develop the site and other projects in the pipeline, so it’s a great time to be involved with the Company,” said Miles.

Multiflight is celebrating after being voted one of Europe's leading fixed based operations and 4th in the UK.
Multiflight has been named as the 17th overall fixed based operation in Europe (4th in the UK) out of hundreds of facilities and many of them far larger than Multiflight.
The title was awarded after qualified aircraft operating readers of European Business Air News (EBAN) voted on the specialist business aviation handlers of Europe.
Heather Cawthorne, Multiflight's Handling Manager, said: “We are delighted to be named one of Europe's leading operations and to be the 4th fixed based operation in the UK. It reflects the high standards we set in terms of both facilities and services—we always aim to satisfy clients' needs and will go that extra mile for them whatever their requirements may be.
“We aim to please and our growing traffic numbers are an indication that our clients value the quality of service we provide. Private travel continues to increase in popularity as people recognise just how time and cost–effective it can be.”
She added: “The refurbishment of Multiflight's Café Bar allows us to offer tasty, bespoke culinary treats for our clients and ensure that any special dietary needs are met.”
The transformation of the Café Bar is part of a larger refurbishment scheme being carried out by Multiflight across its facilities. The FBO facilities were refurbished, followed by the Café Bar and the Flight Training Centre. The multi–million pound investment by Multiflight and Leeds Bradford International Airport has totally transformed the South Side of the airport and created one of the finest facilities of its kind in the country.
Services provided by Multiflight include: aircraft sales and purchase; plane and helicopter charter; trial flying lessons; complete commercial pilot courses to fly as a professional; private aircraft hangarage, service and repair.

Jon Lancaster, the 18–year–old racing driver from Calverley, Leeds, who Multiflight is sponsoring, is intent on making an impression in his first season in Formula 3.
Jon, who celebrated a magnificent run of race wins in last year's Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series and a second place on the championship podium, is eagerly waiting to climb into his ART Formula 3 car. His racing suit, complete with Multiflight logo, is ready and he is chomping at the bit to get started and compete for his maiden Formula 3 win.
“It will be a very difficult season with many second and third year drivers (in Formula 3), but I know that being with the right team is the way forward for me,” said Jon.
“ART has been renamed from ASM, who will give me the best opportunity to compete for race wins! If we can get to the podium quicker than last year then I believe we can have a shout for the title.”
Go Jon!

When Nick Hudson wanted to give his wife Mal a surprise 40th birthday get–away treat he turned to Multiflight to ensure it was extra special.
So pleased were Nick and Mal with the surprise birthday helicopter charter flight that Nick contacted Multiflight to say a big personal thank you.
Nick had booked a few days away for his wife and himself and wanted to incorporate a helicopter flight, although the logistics of where they were staying made it a little difficult. With a bit of work, however, Multiflight came up with the perfect solution of a chauffeur–driven car to a fabulous location for lunch and then the unexpected arrival of a helicopter to whisk Nick and Mal away.
“When there were problems with landing and collecting us from the hotel the birthday surprise just became better and better when you found and booked us in for lunch at a very special location,” said Nick.
“After lunch I popped off and told Mal I was calling a cab and returned telling her I had arranged a “lift”. She was gob–smacked to find the cab driver to be a pilot!”
Nick added: “Chris the pilot was great and ensured we got the most from our adventure. We had a brilliant, memorable time. It is something I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to do something extra special and Multiflight is the company to call.”
See the charter section on the Multiflight website for details of more delighted clients.
