Multiflight-backed racing driver takes podium in Spain

The Multiflight-backed racing driver Jon Lancaster took a well-deserved podium finish in the first of two World Series by Renault races at Motorland Aragon in Spain.

The 20-year-old started sixth and was already up to fifth by the second corner. He went on to take a hard-fought third place in the first of two races over the weekend of October 24/25.

A puncture on lap two of the final World Series by Renault race ended Jon’s chances of victory on the Sunday, when he finished 20th at the flag.

His results from the previous rounds, including a maiden win in Portimao, netted Jon 13th in the overall points standings, despite missing six races.

“It was a rather disappointing end to the weekend after such promise in race one,” said Jon.

Jon stays on in Spain to undergo a World Series by Renault test programme which includes a day with the Mofaz Motorsport team and a day at Barcelona with this year’s championship-winning International Draco Racing team.

Multiflight flight training for UK’s largest independent cargo carrier gets off to flying start

There were celebrations at the Multiflight Flight Training Centre as flight training for cadet pilots of the UK’s largest independent cargo carrier, West Atlantic Airlines, got off to a flying start.

Cadet pilots Miguel Cooper and Alastair Yardy upheld the tradition of signing of a picture of an Electra aircraft and received celebratory bottles of champagne as they successfully completed their commercial flight training at Multiflight. They are the first two cadet pilots to complete their commercial flight training with Multiflight since the company was selected from a host of other UK flight training centres to run West Atlantic Airlines’ Cadet Pilot Programme/Sponsorship Scheme.

“Both Miguel and Alastair have been star students and have completed their Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL), Multi Engine Piston Rating (MEP), Instrument Rating (IR) and Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) training with us here at Multiflight within three months,” says Mike McKenzie, Multiflight Flight Training Centre Manager.

“We were very pleased to have been chosen by West Atlantic Airlines to run the selection and training of their cadets. It is testament to the quality of the flight training we provide and the caliber of the flight training team here that we were selected above other UK flight training centres.”

Russell Ladkin, Managing Director of West Atlantic Airlines, comments: “Multiflight is a first class flight training centre and the perfect partner to run our cadet pilot scheme.”

Cadet pilot Alastair says: “Multiflight provides a highly organised, professional flight training environment: you couldn’t wish for anywhere better to complete your flight training. The Multiflight team is extremely helpful and is always on hand to help and support you.”

The West Atlantic Airlines Cadet Pilot Programme/Sponsorship Scheme is designed for aspiring trainee pilots who hold a valid Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL), and meet rigorous selection criteria, to take them to the issue of an Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL).

The West Atlantic Airlines’ scheme is unique as it is totally funded by West Atlantic Airlines: 50 per cent of the cost is paid for by West Atlantic Airlines and the other 50 per cent is bonded to candidates for five years. This encourages them to stay with Atlantic for at least this period.

All the successful cadets are guaranteed a job with West Atlantic Airlines on completion of the programme, which covers type and line training, as a Commercial Pilot on one of West Atlantic Airlines’ aircraft types.

Further cadet pilots have now been selected and will undergo their commercial flight training with Multiflight, and applications are invited from anyone interested in taking part in the scheme. More information and a cadet pilot scheme application form is available here.

Michael's in Control

Congratulations go to former Multiflight Flight Training Centre staff member Michael Benson who has just been posted to Air Traffic Control at Heathrow Airport.

Michael, who worked with us for a number of years, has been studying at the National Air Traffic Services’ College at Bournemouth Airport. His training, five days a week for five months, was split between theoretical classroom based lessons and practical simulator based exercises.

After successfully passing all elements of the training, Michael has been posted to Heathrow Airport as an Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO). His training starts in the simulator, before going live: working with real planes. He will train at Heathrow for another 12-14 months before being assessed again as being able to do the job himself with no instructor watching over him: this is called validation.

Dr Killeen says thanks to Multiflight

Long-standing Multiflight customer Dr Colm Killeen from Ireland has said a big thank you to us for looking after his treasured Cessna aeroplane so well for over 20 years and now finding a buyer for it.

Multiflight has just sold Dr Killeen’s Cessna 421A aircraft to a buyer from California and it was an emotional sale for the 81-year-old doctor from Dublin, who admitted to being very sad at having to part with his aircraft.

“I have flown all over Europe in that aircraft and thanks to the fact that Multiflight was responsible for its maintenance I never had a moment’s trouble with it,” says Dr Killeen.

Dr Killeen is a well known figure in the world of aviation and is a former president and now honorary president of the medical section of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, the world governing body of sport flying.

Dr Killeen, who started flying in 1963, only stopped flying his Cessna aircraft a couple of years ago.

“It’s been a wonderful aircraft and my wife Ita and I have flown all over in it.”

Multiflight satisfies another customer

When Multiflight was asked by a regular charter customer to find a suitable aircraft to fly from Leeds to Southern Europe for their private use we set about locating an aircraft.

After reviewing a number of types and placing a number of offers and following our evaluation on both turbo prop and jet aircraft, we selected a 2004 Cessna CJ1.

A suitable deal was negotiated and Multiflight then coordinated and arranged the purchase via Denmark and onwards from the UK registration to a Manx registration.
