Rescue Helicopter

Anyone wanting to fly a helicopter for remuneration must hold a Commercial Pilot’s Licence (Helicopters). This is the professional licence enabling the holder to work as a helicopter pilot.

The CPL(H) can be completed either as an Integrated or as a Modular course. The Multiflight Flight Training Centre at Leeds Bradford International Airport, Leeds, Yorkshire, North of England, UK, is approved to run Modular helicopter flying training courses.

Multiflight is perfectly positioned for CPL(H) flight training, as we are located at an international airport and you get used to flying in and out of controlled airspace during your training.

CPL(H) Entry Requirements

The following minimum course requirements must be met in full to start your CPL(H) training at Multiflight:

  • A total of 155 flying hours on helicopters, which must include 50 flying hours as Pilot in Command
  • A valid JAR Class 1 medical
  • Completed and passed all theoretical knowledge exams

The CPL(H) Modular Course

Flight Training

Yannis Flying R22

Your flight training on the CPL(H) Modular Course at Multiflight will include:

  • 30 hours of helicopter flight training – this will be divided into 10 hours instrument flying and 20 hours of general handling and navigation training

If you do not already hold a night rating, five hours of night training will have to be completed before the application of the CPL(H) is made.

Ground Training

Your CPL(H) ground training will be provided by Multiflight flight training partner Bristol Groundschool.

Your ground training for the CPL(H) will include 500 hours theoretical knowledge instruction and nine examinations. For the ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence) you must complete 13 examinations which will involve 650 hours study.

The Modular groundschool is usually carried out through a distance learning programme, which is run totally at your own pace. A revision course is recommended once you are ready, before taking the exams.

Skill Test

Once you have completed the CPL(H) course, you will need to demonstrate your navigation knowledge, ability and general handling skills to the Examiner up to the required level for the issue of a CPL(H).
