Become a Commercial Pilot at Multiflight.

A Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL) is needed if you want to earn remuneration from flying. You can do your CPL here at Multiflight at Leeds Bradford International Airport, Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK. We have flying students studying for their CPL here from all over the world and are recognised as a leading centre for CPL training internationally.

The CPL entry requirements are:

  • Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL)
  • 150 hours total time
  • 100 hours Pilot in Command
  • A pass in all 14 ATPL examinations
  • Class 1 Medical
  • 300nm qualifying cross country

A professional pilot’s licence is a serious undertaking both financially and mentally, and so it should be. Possession of a Commercial Pilot’s Licence allows the holder to carry hundreds of paying passengers thousands of miles around the world, all of whom are entitled to and expect that the flight crew have attained the utmost training standards. Undertaking your Commercial Pilot’s Licence is a huge commitment which will take over a year and costs several thousands of pounds. However those willing to make this commitment embark on an exciting, adventurous and financially rewarding career.

Once you have completed and passed your CPL you will be able to gain financially from your flying. However, you will not be able to operate in an environment that involves flight in instrument meteorological conditions (in cloud) – such as airline flying. You will be able to fly in roles such as aerial survey, crop spraying, parachuting and flight instruction (subject to holding a valid Flight Instructor (FI) rating). Should you wish to fly airlines, business jets, executive helicopters, etc you would need to complete an Instrument Rating (IR) after completing your CPL.

CPL

In order to gain your CPL you will need to pass nine theoretical examinations and undergo 25 hours of flight training. You will need a Class 1 Medical. If you are intending on completing your IR after your CPL you will need to pass 14 theoretical examinations – most pilots choose this option.

The theoretical examinations consist of:

  • Air Law
  • Navigation
  • Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Operational Procedures
  • Flight Performance and Planning
  • Principles of Flight
  • Human Performance and Limitations
  • Communications (VFR)
  • Meteorology

The flight training consists of:

  • 20 Hours training on a simple single engine.
  • 8 Hours training on a complex single engine.

Please note that Multiflight use a twin Duchess BE76 for its commercial training and therefore offer the Commercial Pilot’s Licence and Multi Engine Rating in one.

On completion of your training you would then need to take and pass the flight test with a CAA examiner.

The Commercial Pilot’s Licence is valid for five years and is renewed by sending off a valid class or type rating to the CAA.
